Acts of Kindness

Within 30 seconds of waiting at the crosswalk on my way to work this morning I witnessed two acts that brought a smile to my face.  On my walk from the metro to my office, there is always a homeless man sitting on the corner of the street asking for food or money. As I waited for the opposing traffic to subside and walk sign to appear, a couple approached the man and handed him a box of doughnuts. When he realized they were for him and these people had gone out of their way to buy him breakfast, his face lit up, he kissed the girl's hand and was thanking them profusely as they continued on to where ever they were headed.

Just as the light was about to change and everyone on my side of the street was gearing up to power walk across, a man reaches out to a woman and hands her a pair of sunglasses that she dropped. Now I know in most places it is normal practice to be polite and hand someone something they dropped but this is something I do not witness very often in DC. The two acts of kindness happened within 10 seconds of eachother and gave me a positive start to the day.

Happy weekend!
